Police arrest 7 drug peddlers in Kashmir | KNO

Srinagar, May 14 (KNO): Continuing its firm resolve against the menace of drugs, Police on Wednesday said to have achieved a significant success by arresting seven drug peddlers in separate actions in Anantnag, Baramulla & Kulgam and recovered heroin-like/contraband substances from their possession. In Anantnag, two drug peddlers identified as Mohammad Irfan son of Mohammad Jehangir Khan resident of Ghaziabad, UP and a lady drug peddler resident of Bawana JJ Colony, Delhi-39 were arrested in possession of 06 grams and 03 grams of heroin-like substances respectively, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). Similarly, a notorious lady drug peddler resident of Bangidar, was also apprehended near Bangidar Bridge with 07 grams of heroin-like substance. Moreover, one more drug peddler identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Hajam son of Gul Mohammad Hajam resident of Saidwara, Dooru Shahabad was arrested after being found in possession of 06 grams of heroin-like substance, police said. “In Baramulla, a police party led by SHO PS Kunzer at a checkpoint established at Hardbani Kunzer Bridge intercepted two persons identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Waza son of Mohd Ramzan Waza resident of Mamoosa Pattan and Abdul Qayoom Parra son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Parra resident of Reram Kunzer. During search, 26 grams of contraband and a cash amount of Rs. 4000/- were recovered from Mushtaq Ahmad and 20 grams of Charas-like substance were recovered from Abdul Qayoom. Subsequently, both the accused have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody,” police added. In Kulgam, a police party headed by IC PP Mirbazar during patrolling intercepted a suspicious person. After checking, 302 grams of Charas powder like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Muneeb Ahmad Bhat son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat resident of Berigam Qazigund, the statement reads. Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been taken up. “Police remain committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and urges the general public to come forward with any information related to drug abuse or peddling in their areas. Together, we can build a safer and drug-free society,” the statement added—(KNO)
